Weekly Photo Challenge: Chaos (3)

Playing with iPhone apps on the road ( through the passenger window, just saying so you don’t think I’m iPhoning behind the wheel, heaven forbid 🙂 …)…Chaos in lights on a bumpy road, but I liked the abstract effect, especially for this Chaos challenge…

Sometimes it’s just all about what’s through the window.

Take this mall in Dubai, one of very many across the city.

An attractive atrium, palms rising up to the glass windows in the roof… Continue reading

Some more residential Dubai doors and gates for this weeks Thursday doors, from the Jumeirah area.(Arabic: جميرا‎‎‎, “Beautiful”)  Continue reading

Weekly Photo Challenge: Transmogrify…

This weeks challenge is to provide our view of transmogrify, which means, “to change in appearance or form, especially strangely or grotesquely; transform.”

I headed back to the Stokes Croft area of Bristol, UK, where street art and graffiti has morphed the area into a vibrant suburb. On one street corner, this design seemed to fit the subject….

Dubai is an ever-developing city. People who work here have to live here and currently, the pace of construction and release of new housing developments is quite frantic.  Continue reading

High rise buildings in Dubai can go up to 163 floors ( Think Burj Khalifa, currently the tallest building in the world, until the next one is built, probably in Dubai) but mainly tend to be around 40 stories.  Continue reading

Weekly Photo Challenge: Shine (2)…

A window in the Gold souk in Deira, Dubai shining with the glint of gold. Traditional designs in this jewelry shop, shining in all their opulent splendor.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Shine…

The Burj Khalifa, Dubai is currently the tallest building in the world.

Another such structure is forecast in this city of extremes to go higher, but it’s still in the planning stage.

Burj Khalifa dominates the Dubai skyline and just on occasions when the atmosphere is clearer and the sun is the right position and you have your camera in the car and get lucky going over a bridge or at a traffic light ( I have to add here  “as a passenger “in case you are thinking I’m snapping as I’m driving) you can just catch this massive Eye of Dubai shining over the city… I haven’t seen Frodo or Gollum here yet, but nothing would surprise me !

Skywatch Friday: 21/10/16

It’s that time of year again in the Middle East.

The temperatures are going down, humidity is slowly decreasing, a few clouds appearing in the sky now and intense colours in the sunsets.

Winter is on its way, lovely….

Weekly Photo Challenge: Local…

When I read the intro to the challenge this week, I spent a while thinking which shot in my photo library could be considered “Local” and encompass my locality and also would fit this challenge.

I failed to come up with a solid background. Continue reading

Thursday Doors: 13/10/16

Dibba is a port town on the east coast of the United Arab Emirates. This large natural harbor on the east coast of the northern Emirates has been an important site of maritime trade and settlement since the pre-Islamic era.  Continue reading

Weekly Photo Challenge: H2O, butting in for a second round…

Well, I didn’t dare title this H2O2……altogether a different subject!

H2O, refracted.

When light travels from air into water, it slows down, causing it to change direction slightly. This change of direction is called refraction.

It made the blue crab into an abstract crab…

Weekly Photo Challenge: H2O

When I think of water, my first thought is of the water in our oceans.

The oceans cover 71 percent of the Earth’s surface and contain 97 percent of the Earth’s water. Less than 1 percent of the Earth’s water is fresh water  and 2-3 percent is contained in glaciers and ice caps. The oceans contain 99 percent of the living space on the planet.
