Weekly Photo Challenge: Shine…

The Burj Khalifa, Dubai is currently the tallest building in the world.

Another such structure is forecast in this city of extremes to go higher, but it’s still in the planning stage.

Burj Khalifa dominates the Dubai skyline and just on occasions when the atmosphere is clearer and the sun is the right position and you have your camera in the car and get lucky going over a bridge or at a traffic light ( I have to add here  “as a passenger “in case you are thinking I’m snapping as I’m driving) you can just catch this massive Eye of Dubai shining over the city… I haven’t seen Frodo or Gollum here yet, but nothing would surprise me !

Weekly Photo Challenge: Curve

Modern and old architecture in Dubai features curves. The mosques always have curves in their domed roofs, the contrast of the angular lines of the minarets with the elegant curve of the roof and windows is very pleasing to my eye. The most well known curved buildings are the Burj Al Arab hotel and the Jumeirah Beach hotel, featured below. The header shot is of the Atlantis hotel on the Palm Jumeirah islands, the curved opening in the design makes an iconic feature…. A to Z challenge: K is for Kite-boarding….

Masirah island, Oman, according to some wind-surfing Aussies I met in Ramadan last year on the island, rates amongst the top 10 places for both sports and having spent time there during the monsoon, it’s certainly windy enough to blow you away into the raging seas, but these guys seemed to have no fear. Their main issue was they hadn’t realised it was Ramadan, so the hotel was dry !  Continue reading
