About

Dubai has been the gateway to my new life since October 2012, the change is constantly exciting and sometimes daunting. Now the city is my home abroad, so I’m using my time here to experience the excitement of living and travelling in the Middle East and beyond. I’m at a gateway here, one for the next stage of my life, the children are now making lives of their own, I can go wheresoever I please.

And that is exactly what I have been doing.

Experiencing the change in culture, of tastes and perceptions, the visual tapestries of life that I shall carry with me forever. Peering into snapshots of lives surrounded by wealth and luxury and to the other extreme, those whose poverty has no end, where life is a simple existence amidst harsh conditions.

Travel broadens outlook and horizons but creates a yearning for more. Let’s see how far I can go…

19/9/16….Life changes, check out my update here, I’m still going where I please, maybe now I have more chances….

    • Dear Kiwinana, thank you so much for this kind nomination. However, I’m regretfully declining, I’ve decided not to enter the award nominations for this and others. With no disrespect, I sadly don’t have the time to pull award nominations together, and really I find it very hard to single out specifics blogs, I love everything I choose to read, but I’m very appreciative that you included me and I thank you kindly for the thought.I expect I have to find out how to add the “award free blog” sign I’ve come across..but where was it? think, think, heavens, it will take me a day to find it!

  5. What an exciting life you must lead! For several weeks now, I’ve enjoyed learning about Dubai through your travel entries. Somehow, apparently, I managed not to check out your about page until now, when I needed to for our latest Finding Our Features challenge. You are a master at saying volumes with very few words.

  6. I love your photos and your perspective! One of the nicest things about the world of blogs is that they can introduce us to new experiences, new places, and new inspirations. I’m so glad to have found your beautiful site … and look forward to its future inspirations.

  10. Wow, some incredible pictures. I grew up in Nevada which has some very arid landscapes but nothing compared to Saudi Arabia. Dubai looks like another planet – so futuristic but I’m sure there are areas that are perhaps not so elegant.

    • Thanks, Jan for your lovely comment. You are quite correct, there is a large gulf between the new and old in Dubai. However, each have their own charm and the same goes for the inhabitants! It’s been an interesting journey and still goes on….

    • Oh, wow, that is just so nice of you Mr Kev and thank you so much for thinking of me for a nomination. I am going to regretfully decline as I made a decision at the start of this blogging experience not to go down the award route as I can’t give enough time to it, but I so appreciate your support and really do hope that you will continue to follow my journey…Again thank you, it was so kind of you to think my blog warranted a nomination.

  12. Hi Vicky – Now that I have been to Dubai, I think of you living in that city I never expected to like but really did! Sharing it with the estimated 2 million Saudis there on holiday was a bit overwhelming. I hope you stay in that area as I would like to return and meet up with you one day in the not too distant future. All the best, Maggie

    • Hello Maggie, sorry I missed your comment, my apologies. I’m now sharing my time between Dubai, Cyprus and Uk, so please, please if you head back to Dubai, do let me know, I really do think we should meet up, I suspect we wouldn’t stop talking!! I would love to show you the UAE outside of the glitz of Dubai, plus some town insights off the beaten track. Please give me a heads up on any dates and I would make sure I will be there….

  16. Hi Vicky, I greatly appreciate your Oman and UAE butterfly posts. I am working on an atlas of the butterflies of Oman and was wondering if you would be kind enough to share your location data? This is especially important with species such as the Joker that I have few records for.
You can see some of my UAE work in the new book the ‘Butterflies of the UAE and neighbouring northern Oman’.
    Many thanks Vic

    • Hi Vic, I’m sorry for the delayed reply but I have only just seen this message. I am actually down in Dhofar at present until Tuesday-if you still require it I can give you location/species data for each day we do nature with butterflies seen and can look back through records for location data for any species you require (I have daily folders for photographs) …br Vicky
